Morning all.
One of the advantages of games coming thick and fast is that we do not have too long to dwell on a defeat.
Tomorrow we are back in action just 4 days after the defeat to Manchester United, and we have a chance to get straight back to winning ways.
Due to the winter World Cup, we basically play Thursday / Sunday between now and mid-November. The only exceptions being the international break (why?) at the end of September and the mid-week of the penultimate game before the break (for the pedantic of you, we also play Manchester City on a Wednesday).
Tomorrow we face Zurich, who currently sit 9th in the Swiss league. It will be interesting to see what sort of team we put out.
One school of thought is that we go straight for the B team. Give those lads who have started so well for us this season a rest.
But the other is we should go strong and look to qualify as quickly as possible.
Our first 3 games are Zurich (A), PSV (H) and Bodo (H). 9 points from 9 will mean we have one foot in the next round. Win the 4th game (Bodo (A)) and we will be gauranteed qualifcation.
That will mean come middle of October, we can put out that B team without a care in the world, instead of having to mput out our 1st XI as we try and reverse a potential disaster.
Zurich limped into the Euopa League having been knocked out of Champions League qualifying by Qarabag and then scrapping past Hearts and Linfield in Europa League qualifying.
Anyone that claims to have heard of any of their players is a liar.
Therefore I am a student of the first school of thought.
We should be beating Zurich regardless of whether it is an A or B team. Put out the B and we should cruise the game.
Tomorrow I will do the usual team prediction. Will probably get it hoplesley wrong as always.
Enjoy your Tuesday.
