At the end of the day, it was a simple matter of desire and technique over good old-fashioned effort and wherewithal. In a case of pure irony, the manner in which Manchester City disposed of Arsenal this afternoon at the Etihad Stadium, was closer to the style of football that the Londoners patented under their former manager at the turn of this century.
Within seconds of the start, the home side were ahead with Sergio Agüero’s first goal of the day which came about by some careless play on the edge of the Arsenal penalty area. The ball came across wickedly low, but not too low for the City striker who headed home past Bernd Leno in a manner that looked extremely easy. The home side started to look as if they would steamroller Arsenal, but a free-kick to the visitors on the edge of the penalty area saw Nacho Monreal head the ball backwards into the general direction of Laurent Koscielny, who wasted no time in scoring with a messy, yet effective header. Arsenal looked as if they were coming back into the match, but after some clever  offensive moves by City, that man Sergio Agüero popped up again just before the half-time break to ensure that his side went off the pitch in the ascendancy.
What a difference a half-time break can make. Did the second half actually happen for Arsenal? They were out there somewhere, I can assure you, although the damning statistic of no shots on the City goal in the second period tells its own story somehow. The gulf in class, organisation and skill started to tell on Arsenal, with City players seemingly doing whatever they liked, when they liked and more importantly, how they liked throughout the half. It appeared that at times, City were just not going to let Arsenal get the ball. Of course, there were short periods in the half when indeed, Arsenal of course, did manage to string a few passes together, but nothing to either scare nor even worry the home side. Throughout the match, Mr. Emery toyed with different formations, none of which had the desired affect here in Manchester today. Even the substitutions (Aaron Ramsey and new boy Dennis Suàrez, for Sead Kolašinac plus Alex Iwobi) were unable to make a difference, but by then, Sergio Agüero had scored his third and final goal of the day anyway, and the home side were on their way to a comfortable home win; a controversial goal in which he bundled the ball over the line after it hit his arm. Ten minutes from time, a very sad and injured Shkrodan Mustafi was replaced by Konstantinos Mavropanos, but by that point in the match it didn’t really matter.
This match showed us up for what we really are; a below-par side that desperately needs to sign defenders that are light years away from a regular top four spot in the table, let alone challenging for title honours. With all due respects to Dennis Suàrez, it’s defenders that we need, not another midfielder. As we feared, this is a long-term work in progress that Mr. Emery is undertaking; if he doesn’t sign defenders in the next transfer window, then we are in real, deep trouble as the ones we have are quite frankly, not good enough to play together at this level. Playing bottom of the Premiership clubs is one thing, but battling against fellow top six sides is a totally different concept, as we are just not good enough to compete with them, let alone beat our rivals. At the time of writing, we are still in the Europa League, so let us hope beyond hope that we are able to go further in the competition, as that is our only chance (however slim) of us getting into a major final this season. Remember everyone, keep the faith, get behind the team and the manager, as these early days are going to be crucial for our future success in all competitions. Stick with the winners. 1 in 1 out at THE Arsenal + Man City F.E.A.R

So no-one was really expecting too much excitement this transfer window, But Emery finally got his man and Suarez will be on loan to us till the end of the season with an option to buy. The only suprise when the club announced it was them welcoming him to Arsenal and not to THE Arsenal. WE ARE THE ARSENAL, the THE seperates us from other clubs, it’s a respect thing, it’s a class thing. No-one calls that lot THE Tottenham, unless its followed by are shit.

Going out on loan is young Smith-Rowe who will spend the rest of the season at RB Leipzig in Germany. This is a great move for the youngsters education and does seem very on point these days to look at young players in the German league. From the rumblings I hear Smith-Rowe wanted to go on loan at the start of the season but Emery wanted a good look at him and get him used to his style. Smith-Rowe was rewarded with a few games for the 1st team and took them well. Can only hope RB Leipzip give him plenty of games and he comes back to us next season a better player.

Young Eddie may have woken up today a little disappointed to also not be on his way to Germany. He desperately needs 1st team action week in week out, sitting on the bench right now is doing him no favours. But with only 1 attacking player coming in Eddie will remain the 3rd choice Striker. If he gets the chance this season he has to take it with both feet, we may need him too !

Man City away is really giving me the F.E.A.R Fukin ‘Ell Arsenal’s Rubbish. Whilst we have won 96 games Vs them compared to them only winning 54 (45 draws) since they have been funded by an oil rich nation we have been on the end of a right kicking too many times. We have lost the last 4 on a spin scoring only once and letting in 11. Man City are coming off the back of an away defeat to Newcastle, so there is some hope, but with our lack of fit defenders we are really going to need a bit of luck and taking every half chance we get up there end.

An odd fact is since we lost our opening 2 games we have gathered only 3 points less than Man City and we are 5 points up on 24 games last season. I’m seeing too many “fans” and I will use that term loosely happy when we lose or grind out a win, too many wanting any reason to have a pop at the new boss, oddly a lot these “fans” were the same ones who thought the ex-boss walked on water, you can draw your own conclusions to that. Yes we are having a bumpy ride, yes at times Emerys sides do look unblanaced and without a clear plan or style. But anyone with the smallest knowledge of football would’ve been expecting that and that’s without having major injuries with the defenders. Have a bit of faith in Emery eh and less of the F.E.A.R

Transfer deadline day news….2 in 2 out (?)

Well this time last year we were saying goodbye to Giroud and hello to Aubameyang, which turned out a great bit of business. Today we could see 2 coming in and 2 going out on loan.

1st in should be Denis Suarez, who Barcelona said was a done deal last night on thier website only to pull it an hour later. Likely reason is the paperwork wasn’t completed at the FA yet. The deal is said to be a loan until May with us having 1st option to buy.

The 2nd player maybe Carrasco maybe Perisic. Now I hate transfer speculation and people pretending to know whats going on, even if like everyone else I have a little gossip and talk bolloxs with my mates in private. One thing is for sure tho Emery want’s 2 players in and wants 2 players who can play as wingers. The 2nd player is also highly likely to be a loan till May with an option or an agreement to buy.

Again going on what I have read atleast 2 of the younger players are set to go on loan for the rest of the season. The stories are that a few wanted to go on loan for the whole season, but Emery wanted to see them in training and get them used to how he wants to play. Smith-Rowe is likely to join RB Leipzig and Eddie is off to Augsburg. It’s a great chance for both young players to expand thier education and hopefully get plenty of 1st team minutes. Will bring our total of kids playing in Germany upto 3.

The fight for 3rd – 6th is going to go right to the wire this season and I still fancy us to get 4th, let’s hope those coming in give us that extra bit of edge. Yes I would’ve liked to have seen a CB or 2 come in, but I guess we will have to wait to the summer now.

Have a good day and don’t drive yourself nuts refreshing the news feeds !
