The Big Arsenal Quiz for the NHS

Morning all.

So some news for all of you.

Last week some good people created a Facebook Live quiz with questions based on the TV show FRIENDS. It has raised nearly £100,000 for NHS Charities. We have decided to replicate this and host The Big Arsenal Quiz.

We kick off on Friday 3rd April at 8pm

All we ask is that you donate £2 (£2 is the minimum donation amount on JustGiving) and all proceeds will be donated to the NHS to help in this difficult time.

So, here are the steps to take to enter the quiz…

1. ‘Like’ our page on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/shewore
2. Donate £2 via JustGiving – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/she-wore

Get your pen & paper ready, and at 8pm on Friday as we will go live on Facebook. It will be 45 minutes a half with a 15 minute break for half time.

Keeping the mind active with a pointless blog

This is my first blog in 10 days.

I have not been in self isolation, I have just found myself with very little to write about – and there is no point creating contact for the sake of it.

In the last week I have “come off” football like a crack addict. Taking it slowly, reducing time spent discussing it day by day, spending less and less time on social media.

With the state of the world at the moment, I would advise everyone to do the same.

Live in the real world. Go for a walk. Call your friends and family. Sitting on social media all day, arguing with others, will only be detrimental to your own mental health.

Despite there having been literally nothing to talk about in 10 days, I see some outlets are still pumping out content.

Transfer speculation has gone into full swing, and people are doing their all time best, all time worst, Arsenal XI’s.

Those spreading transfer speculation (when the club and world is verging on shut down) merely highlight what we all know. That they make it up. We could be in full lockdown and have no football on and they would claim we are scouting a player, or in talks to sign someone.

Likewise those creating content for content sake are struggling.

Some people rely on the money that comes in from blog adverts or YouTube adverts. With no football they have found their hits dwindling, and are now pumping out any old content to try and earn their $30 a day.

Tesco are hiring lads. Go get a job.

I write today more for myself than anyone else.

It is important in these times that we all do things to keep our mind and body occupied.

I am still working, albeit from home for the last week, but it is so important to keep the mind moving. I have already been out for a 5km walk this morning (having got up at 6am). I thought it would be useful to put a few words down on paper – just as an outlet.

Please follow the governments advice. We do not want a full lockdown. We need the streets are parks open so that people can go for walks, get some fresh air.

Luckily I moved into a house with a garden a couple of years ago, but before that I spent 8 years living in a flat with no balcony. Think of those people when demanding a full lockdown.

There is plenty of space on our pavements and in our parks and forests for everyone to go for a walk, a run or a bike ride without getting too close to each other that Coronavirus could spread.

We need to take responsibility for our actions in these strange times. By going into parks, or holding social gatherings, you will only force the government to implement a full lockdown. And that could damage more people’s health (both mental and physical) than the virus.

I do not know when I will write again. Probably when I just need to get some things off my chest.

Stay good people.

Football authorities have 2 choices: Extend or Cancel

Well yesterday we warned of short notice cancellations to games, and within a couple of hours of our blog going live it was announced that the next 2 weeks Premier League fixtures would be suspended.

This means there will be no Premier League football until 4th April – after the international break.

After the international break, there are 6 weeks of football left if the authorities still want the league season to finish on 17th May. That simply is not enough time to complete every game.

Having been knocked out of the Europa League by Olympiakos, Arsenal have no games currently scheduled for mid-week. That leaves 6 mid-week slots where games could be re-arranged.

We already have to re-arrange Manchester City, Brighton & Southampton. It is likely the FA will follow the Premier League’s lead and postpone next weekends FA Cup ties. This leaves us with 4 games to be re-arranged.

If Arsenal beat Sheffield United, the fixture against Leicester will also need to be re-arranged.

5 games re-arranged with 6 available mid-week slots. It is doable. But Arsenal are out of Europe.

Manchester City are still in the Champions League.

They already have 4 league games that need re-arranging: Fixtures against Newcastle, Burnley, Chelsea and Arsenal. The FA Cup game against Newcastle will make it 5.

On top of that they also need to re-arrange the Champions League 2nd leg tie against Real Madrid.

So that is 6 games they need to re-arrange, with 6 mid-week slots. But those 6 mid-week slots are only available if they are knocked out of the Champions League.

If Manchester City make it to the Semi-Final, that means they only have 2 mid-weeks with no football. 6 into 2 does not go.

They would have 17 games to play (excluding finals) and just 42 days to play them. That is a game every 2.5 days.

Manchester United face a similar fixture pile up.

They already had the games against Sheffield United and LASK in the Europa League to re-arrange. With this weeks game against Tottenham and Norwich in the FA Cup set to be cancelled.

That is 4 games that need to be re-arranged. If they make the Europa League semi-finals and beat Norwich in the FA Cup, they will have 9 games needed to be played in 4 mid-weeks.

Chelsea also face a similar situation.

Even if they use the mid-weeks prior to the FA Cup & Champions League final, there are simply not enough days in the calender to complete the season before the end of May.

Unless they are expecting Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United to play a game every 2-3 days, the Premier League will have no choice but to either extend or cancel the season.
