It has been announced that Arsene Wenger is set to become the new face of taxi giant Uber in their upcoming global advertising campaign.
In the past, Wenger has shied away from lucrative personal endorsement deals, preferring to toe the Arsenal company line and only advertising Arsenal partners. This is the first time Wenger has broken ranks and put his name to an external product.
Wenger has agreed a £1,000,000 12 month contract with Uber, where he is expected to appear in a series of global adverts, showing him arriving to stadia around the world via an Uber taxi, as well as an ambush marketing campaign which will see him arrive and leave the Arsenal training ground via an Uber taxi on transfer deadline day in front of Sky News camera’s.
In a statement, Arsene Wenger has said “I am delighted to have agreed to become the face of Uber. I feel Uber and I share core values and look forward to helping them build the brand for the future.”
Uber Europe spokeswoman Dia da Mentira announced “We are delighted to announce this partnership. Arsene Wenger is a man of great integrity and we could not think of anybody better to become the face of Uber. Uber’s core values of honesty, reliability and cost saving are shared by Mr Wenger. We look forward to working with him over the next 12 months and potential beyond.”
Wenger is set to start the worldwide promotional tour this summer.
After completing his Euro 2016 commitments for French TV, he will take film adverts in London, Paris, Berlin and Rome before 2 cities in Australia. He will then rejoin with the Arsenal squad in America and will be promoting Uber in San Jose, Los Angeles and New York before heading back to London for the start of the football season.
Uber are also currently in talks to become Arsenal’s Official Transportation Partner, but the deal is on hold until Arsenal qualify for next seasons Champions League.
