What is the truth behind the Lucas Perez situation?

I wrote a blog back in May about the unfortunate case of Lucas Perez. Unfortunately I have managed to delete it. So here is the short version of what happened with the Spanish striker.

1. He was signed to cover the injured Danny Welbeck back and the not-fully-fit Olivier Giroud

2. Whilst he settled, Alexis Sanchez was given a run upfront

3. Alexis Sanchez scored 30 goals

4. Perez was also competition for Theo Walcott on the right wing

5. Walcott scored 19 goals

6. He scored a hat trick v Basel. Well done

7. In the game before Basel, Sanchez scored a hattrick

8. The game after Basel, Walcott scored and got an assist

9. Perez failed to boot out either of the inform Walcott or Sanchez from the team

10. You’re an idiot if you think he should have started ahead of either

11. Olivier Giroud returned from injury

12. Danny Welbeck returned from injury

13. Perez was basically 4th choice striker

14. Perez got injured

15. Arsenal changed formation

Was Perez given a fair chance? No. But not everyone deserves a fair chance. I never got a fair chance to play for Arsenal. Neither did you.
Sometimes the truth is that there were simply better players ahead of you who maintained their form.

Arsenal set to give 1st teamers run out in U23 friendly

Having left 16 first team players at home, Arsenal look set to give some of them a run out in upcoming U23 friendlies.

On Friday, Arsenal U23’s play Brighton at the Arsenal Training Centre (aka London Colney) in a behind closed doors, invitation only, friendly. Usually a behind closed doors game screams out two things:

  1. Trialists
  2. First team players set to play

With Wojciech Szczesny, Mathieu Debuchy, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Lucas Perez & Chuba Akpom all fit and left at home, we could see a whole host of players be given a run out against Brighton. It will be an opportunity for them to show visiting scouts that they are fit and ready to go for the new season.

On July 27, Arsenal’s traditional meeting with non-league Borehamwood is set to take part. Usually an U23 fixture, rumours are that Arsenal could play up to 5 first team players, as they continue to put those who are not wanted in the shop window, and ensure that their fitness levels do not drop – putting at risk a potential transfer.

With the Borehamwood fixture set to be open to fans, it is a great opportunity, in the summer holidays, to take your kids and see a mixture of first team players and some youngsters who will be bloodied with an eye on the future.

If they have not yet left the club by July 27th, Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Mathieu Debuchy, Lucas Perez, & Chuba Akpom are almost certainly set to play a part. The only one likely to miss out is Wojciech Szczesny – who has recently cleaned out the closet in his house ahead of a move to Juventus.

All 5 players will be looking to put themselves in the shop window and show that, despite the lack of match time last season, they are not overweight, they are injury free, and would be ready to join pre-season training at a new club.

Get down to Borehamwood with your kids on July 27th to support a non-league club with heavy links to Arsenal, and to see some senior players (who might be leaving Arsenal) play.

FIVE key questions Arsene Wenger MUST answer

gettyimages-632918062

1) Why were the team “mentally not ready for the challenges”? – We were playing Watford, a side we had played 4 times in the last 2 seasons, winning 3. How did we not know the challenges they face. Who is responsible for the mental preparation of the team?

2) Why so many changes after Southampton? – We won 5-0, albeit against a very weak Southampton side, why did only one player who started that game start tonight? I appreciate Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott are just returning from injury, but Bellerin, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lucas Perez deserved a start.

3) Why is Jack Wilshere on loan? – Yes, he has had to go on loan to prove his fitness, which he has done so play 19 games for Bournemouth. That is more games than both Aaron Ramsey & Santi Cazorla. Why did we not insist on a recall clause like Chelsea did with Nathan Ake?

4) What has Lucas Perez done wrong? – Everytime Lucas Perez has played this season, he has looked a threat. He has scored 7 goals in 449 minutes. Why is he not getting more game time?

5) How can you justify signing a new contract? – Everyone knows there is a two year deal currently sitting on your desk. How can you justify signing this? You have always said that everything you do is in the best interests if Arsenal Football Club, even if it has sacrificed some of your reputation. Well now is the time to make the ultimate sacrifice. It is not in the best interests of Arsenal Football Club to have Arsene Wenger as manager next year. Do the right thing and step aside.
