Where are they now? Hajrovic, Gervinho, Chamakh, Bihmoutine & Henderson

In the final look at the players who have left in the summer (search for the other parts you lazy buggers!) we look at how  Hajrovic, Gervinho, Chamakh, Bihmoutine & Henderson have performed since leaving Arsenal.

Saed Hajrovic

Was part of a Swiss centre defence last season alongside Martin Angha, both were cast aside this summer after failing to impress. Where as Angha moved to Germany, Hajrovic found he had to return to his native Switzerland and sign for Grasshopper Club Zurich. He is listed as a 1st team player, however has no clickable profile on their website, so I do not have a clue what he is doing, but I can guess it is not much.

Gervinho

After a tough 2 year spell at Arsenal, where red cards, injuries and 2 African Cup of Nations restricted him and severely dented his confidence, few were sad to see him go. He joined Rome for £8 million and made his debut off the bench against Liverno. He has now played 7 games (twice from the bench) scoring 3 goals, including a brace against Bologna for table topping Roma, who coincidently have a record of played 7, won 7. With Arsenal suffering an injury crisis of wingers, you have to feel he would have played for us this season, and in a game such as WBA, his width and pace could have been key. He seems to be settling at Roma and, despite a few negative quotes from the Ivorian about his time at Arsenal, I wish him well.

Marouane Chamakh

Joined Crystal Palace originally on loan, the deal was made permanent a couple of days later after Arsenal mutually agreed to cancel his contract. He has signed a 1 year deal, and I get the feeling Eagle’s fans can not wait for the year to be over. Too think, in 2010, West Ham offered Bordeaux £18million for him. 1 goal in 7 uninspiring games, where he has spent most of his time chucking himself to the ground. Whilst the likes of Dwight Gayle might not be as talented, at least he shows heart, and with Palace in a relegation fight this year, they would be better off with the hard working East Londoner then the disinterest Moroccan. What ever happened to that talented player in France who broke Champiosn League records and scored 10 goals in his 1st 21 games for Arsenal? What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas I guess.

Samir Bihmoutine

The Morrocan youngster has joined the youth side (or development squad) or AFC Bournemouth, after a successful trial match against Coventry City & Oxford City. He has since started 3 youth team games for the Cherries.

Conor Henderson

Once rates so highly by the Arsenal youth team staff, a succession of injuries, including damaging his knee ligaments, led to his Arsenal career being curtailed before it even took off. Signing for Hull he is looking to rebuild his career. A substitute appearance in the League Cup in a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield. He scored as a trialist on his debut for the reserves against Doncaster Rovers, showing his natural talent by curling a free kick into the bottom corner. He has since played a couple more reserve games for the Tigers, but opportunities of 1st team football currently look slim.

Where are they now? Angha, Eastmond, Wynter, Monteiro, Ebecilio & Denilson

Last night I was playing FIFA 14. During a game, I heard the commentator say ‘Andre Santos’ and it got me thinking, how are the many players who left us getting on at their new clubs? What better time to explore how they are doing in a boring international break?

Martin Angha

The first player to leave us in the summer, announcing a deal to FC Nuremberg before the season had even ended on April 10th. He has since played once for his new club once, coming on in the 89th minute against Dortmund. He has performed 4 times of their reserves and at 19, it was unlikely he would make an immediate impact. He has, however, made a place on the Nuremberg bench his own. A sign he might break into the full team in the near future.

Craig Eastmond

The Nando’s loving chav joined League One Colchester in the summer, whom he spent the 2nd half of last season on loan. He is a regular in their first team, starting in all 11 of Colchester’s league games. Reports are he is maturing at Colchester and performing like a senior member of the squad, often passing on his Arsenal experience to those both younger and older in the Colchester squad. Having spent 3 years in Colchester myself, I am can hand on heart say the Nando’s there is decent. I am sure he is enjoying himself.

Jordan Wynter

Now at Bristol (Rovers or City? I do not know, why does such a small town need two football clubs?), 2 league starts and a goal in the League Cup was a good start for the midfielder. Playing in a defensive role, he was looking good until he picked up an injury in September which has left him unavailable for selection for over a month. He is now slowly regaining full fitness and playing in Bristol’s Under 21 side.

Elton Monteiro

The once highly rated joined Club Brugge where he has failed to do anything of note.

Kyle Ebecilio

The young Dutchman has returned to Holland to play for FC Twente. Having suffered at Arsenal, where he lacked 1st team opportunities, he has perhaps highlighted that you are better off remaining in the country of your birth to continue your development. Starting the season for FC Twente on the bench, he is now a regular in their 1st XI. Whilst he has always been the ‘1st sub’ the fact at 19 he is trusted with playing in central midfield on a regular for the Eredivisie table toppers shows we will be hearing a lot more about him. I wonder if we have a buy back clause?

Denilson

Having returned on loan to his home town club, Sao Paulo last year, he signed for them on a permanent basis this summer having mutually terminated his contract with Arsenal (ie got a big pay off). The Brazilian league is an odd one, where they play a regional league, then a national league, as well as the Cope Libertadoes (South American Champions League). 32 games since resigning for his home town club, he has been welcomed back by the fans big time. I hope he regains his ability, as I feel he was often chastised for “not being Cesc Fabregas”. 10 yellow’s, 2 red’s and no goals. Will he gain a place in the Brazilian squad for the next World Cup? Probably not.

Tomorrow: Arshavin, Watt, Neita, Rees, Shea & Mannone
