Arsenal target Manchester United star that outperforms Sanchez & Ozil

Rumours doing the round that Arsenal want to take Manchester United’s Anthony Martial as part of the deal that will see Alexis Sanchez go to the red side of Manchester.

As the below stats shows, Arsenal would be getting a player who is much more efficient than both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

I was surprised when I pumped the names into the SQUAWKA COMPARISON MATRIX. Whilst I expected Martial to not be too far in terms of minutes per goal and assist last season, I did not expect to see him ahead of both.

“Minutes per” statistics will often favour the player who plays less minutes, but it is undeniable that Martial is an impressive player.

He currently averages a goal every 3.4 games in the Premier League. A decent figure when you consider 15% of his appearances have come from the bench.

He has also only just turned 22. He is young, hungry and quality.

A surprisingly competitive replacement for Alexis Sanchez.

    1) Martial’s statistics merely reflect United’s superior performance this season. He has yet to prove he can hold down a first team place at United (guaranteed for Sanchez and likely Ozil, if he comes). Still spin his talents if you will.

    2) Is Martial going to discard Champions League football presumably for less money to play for a team who do not look like they will make the top 4 when its very clear that United are at the beginning of something and not the end of a cycle?

There is a whole bunch of reasons why the likes of Ozil and Sanchez want to leave Arsenal (it’s beginning to resemble what Moyes discovered at Old Trafford) and will consider United as a better option and its the same reason why Martial (or any United player) would be insane to go the other way.

That said Martial is another of those who doesn’t like to track back and doesn’t do so enough so he would be in the mold of Wenger’s teams in leaving their defence totally exposed

PS There’s a rumour going around that Mikhtarian doesn’t fancy going to Arsenal either……

      1) The stats are from last season, when Manchester United finished 6th

      2) Martial has started just 11 league games this season. With the likes of Mbappe, Lemar, Dembele, Coman & Thauvin (add in Griezmann), France have a lot of young forwards. He could miss out on the WC due to lack of game time

As for Mkhytarian, he will go to whoever his agent (the leach that is Mino Raiola), will be able to profit the most from.
