Arsenal stars set for international rest

If you were to describe the state of Arsenal’s squad after the weekend draw with Spurs, the collective adjective would be tired. Alternatively you could by jaded. After a few beers you would certainly say f**ked.

Despite it only being November, the side looked exhausted.

For a start, you have Santi Cazorla. Off the pace in the first half. He was substituted at half time complaining of dizziness. He was clearly ill. Now whether it was an illness that went through the squad, we will never know. But it is unusual just for one person in a place of work to get ill. Currently in my office over half of the staff have had man flu in the last week.

Alexis Sanchez has looked off the pace all season. Whether it is second season syndrome, that he has now been found out, or the summer jaunt in Chile where he carried his side to the title. He has just not looked 100%. In fact, his tiredness go’s beyond this season. He has not looked 100% since March.

So that brings us to the next 2 weeks.

Usually I dread an international break. The majority of the squad flying to far flung corners of the planet to represent their country. Either in competitive internationals on plastic pitch’s in Eastern Europe or pointless friendlies to anywhere in the globe.

How often the domestic season is broken up for an international break needs to be looked at. This is the 3rd break this season, and they would have played 6 games. when you consider thus far we only played 12 league games, that ratio is not correct.

However, this time round, I am pleased for the break.

Firstly we have our current injury record.  It is shocking. Although a quick look at PhysioRoom.com shows that we are down to just 7 players injured.

The break will allow the medical and fitness staff to focus solely on the injured players rehabilitation. No other distractions.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey & Hector Bellerin are all expected to be fully fit come our next game, WBA away. Theo Walcott has an outside chance of making it, although Norwich away is more likely.

These players returning will be key to our title challenge.

The other positive aspect of the international break is the rest our players will get.

Usually, it is easier to say who is not going on international duty than saying who is. It is usually Mikel Arteta & Mathieu Flamini playing with eachother.

This time, however, the list is long. Partly to do with injuries, partly to do with retirement, mainly due to players not being selected:

Mathieu Debuchy
Per Mertesacker
Gabriel Paulista
Mikel Arteta
Mesut Ozil
Nacho Monreal
Mathieu Flamini
Francis Coquelin

Now some of these do not need the break (Flamini & Arteta again). However, 2 weeks off for the likes of Mertesacker, Ozil, Monreal & Coquelin could be priceless.

Another benefit is the majority of the lads going away on international are mainly playing friendlies and not having to travel too far.

Kieran Gibbs – Spain & England (to play France)

Laurent Koscielny – France (to play Germany) & England
Santi Cazorla – Spain (to play England) & Belgium
Olivier Giroud  – France (to play Germany) & England
Calum Chambers – Bosnia & England (to play Switzerland)
Petr Cech – Czech Republic (to play Serbia) & Poland
Alexis Sanchez – Chile (to play Columbia) & Uruguay
David Ospina – Chile & Columbia (to play Argentina)
Joel Campbell – – Costa Rica (to play Haiti) & Panama

Only the South American lads are travelling any distance, and they are also the only ones to be playing full internationals.

It is unlikely the European lads will play over 90 minutes in the two games combined. And with them being friendlies, the training and the games themselves will lack the intensity that competitive matches have.

The fact that after the first round of games, only two of the European lads will be back in England – with another in Belgium – is another positive. Not much travel time. They will be back home, in the comfort of their own home, within 24 hours of the game finishing. I would be surprised if all of them do not turn up for training at Arsenal the day after their international game.

The only worry is poor Alexis Sanchez. He is running on empty. And has two World Qualifiers coming up against Columnia & Uruguay. Neither an easy game. Both sides who play a physical game.

I am concerned at the state he will return in. He will play every minute. He needs a rest. But with 2 key away games in the Premier League coming up, and an important European tie at home to Zargreb, where he gets that rest is not clear.

Maybe if we can manage him through WBA & Zargreb, if Walcott, Ramsey & Chamberlain are back for Norwich, he could get that rest. Alternatively we need to nurse him through November and he could get that rest against Sunderland at home in the league (followed by Olympiakos in the Champions League if results do not go our way).

What we do with him is not clear. But we could have done with him picking up a slight strain to give us an excuse to pull him out of playing for Chile. But with his mentality and loyalty to his country, that would have been impossible.

This international break will be as good as a rest for most of our players. And early season break.

It should give the majority of key players a chance to recharge their batteries and strengthen our title challenge.

For once, I am pleased for the break.

Islington Band Banned from Performing in Islington

PRESS RELEASE

LOCAL ISLINGTON BAND BANNED FROM PERFORMING IN ISLINGTON

Islington based band ‘The Riders of The Night”, who were due to perform at a ‘London Callin – A Night of Musical Fireworks’ promoted gig in The Hope & Anchor, 207 Upper Street this Saturday night, have been told Islington Police will shut the venue if they take to the stage.

Only yesterday were the band notified by the promoter that Islington Police had been in contact, telling them that if ‘The Riders’ were to perform then they would take this drastic course of action.

Amazingly no reason was given to the band by Islington Police as to why they were to be expelled from the gig, which had a number of other bands such as ‘Special Branch’, ‘The Bleach Boys’ and ‘The Featherz’ all due to appear. The gig will now carry on without the scheduled appearance of ‘The Riders’.

The Riders are well known supporters of numerous local charities and good causes. Recently they collaborated on a single produced by ‘The Archway One’ called “Justice for The Archway One”, this song highlighted the story of a football fan unfairly banned from The Emirates Stadium following an Islington WPC’s lies & treachery (later exposed following a disciplinary hearing)

The Riders also donated the proceeds of their last gig in Islington to ‘The Henry Hicks Foundation’, a charity set up by the family of a young Islington man killed in a car chase with Islington Police Officers (The police officers involved are currently suspended, the IPC have reported and the CPS are currently looking into what case/s to bring against them.)

The band, obviously feel that their support of such campaigns against Islington Police Injustice (stickers & badges for both “Justice for The Archway One” and “Justice for Henry Hicks” are always available at their gigs) has led to this “Act of Revenge” by Islington Police Officers.

Spurs getting a bit excited – Again

That lot down the road love doing it to themselves don’t they.

Rather than understand their standing in football, as a small side who sit 15th on the list of League titles won, alongside the likes of Burnley and Portsmouth, they just keep getting excited.

“This is our year”

“We are title contenders”

“Arsenal mind the gap”

They have not won the league in nearly 55 years. Not won the FA Cup in nearly 25 years. And not finished above The Arsenal in over 20 years.

And this year we have it again. There fans are getting all gooey and excited as they are they are on the longest unbeaten run in the Premier League. 10 games.

So great is the run that they are on, they are only 1 game behind matching their all time Premier League record. Although they are some way behind the Premier League record of 49 set by The Arsenal.

So they are getting excited. 10 Games unbeaten. Do they get a trophy for that?

On the Premier League website, however, they are not even top of the form guide table. Guess who that go’s too? Yep. You guessed it. The Arsenal.Untitled

Even during one of the greatest periods of Spurs Premier League history, they are still below The Arsenal.

And in the league proper, despite them being in such great form, they sit 5th. 5 points off top. 5 points off The Arsenal.

It does not matter which way you look at it. Spurs are still in Arsenal’s shadow.

And in this great run, who have they actually played? There two most recent victories were against Bournemouth & Aston Villa. 2 of the worst teams in the league. In fact, 4 of their 5 wins this season (great form they are in, won 5 in 11) have been against Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Sunderland & Crystal Palace. My Thursday night 5 a side team at Chingford Goals could beat them.

Spurs are frankly not a very good team.

The press crow over them (or mainly ex Spurs manager Harry Redknapp in the Evening Standard & Spurs season ticket Mihir Bose in the Evening Standard). The way they go on about Spurs young Englishmen is embarrassing.

I saw an article the other weeks saying that the England squad for next years Euro’s could contain 7 Spurs ‘stars’. Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Andros Townsend, Ryan Mason & Harry Kane.

If that is the best that England have to offer, I might as well cancel my annual leave for June 2016 now. There really is no point going.

I always find it laughable the way any half decent Spurs player is the future of English football. Andros Townsend scores 1 cracking goal, against Montenegro, 2 years ago, and it still considered as one of England’s brightest young talents. He is 24.

Tom Carroll is another. Been bigged up in a massive way by the press. Spurs fans saying he has the potential to be better than Jack Wilshere. He is only 4 months younger than Wilshere!

And Alex Pritchard. Spurs fans have been talking about him for a while now. He spent last year on loan at Brentford. Has 2 Premier League appearances to his name. And is older than Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

It is a bit of a joke really!

Spurs really are the joke of English football. The gift that keeps on giving. They brighten up most of our Saturday evenings. And who doesn’t love seeing a kid cry knowing that due to his father’s decision’s, it will not be the only time he cries over football. And his kids too. And there kids as well.

A generation of Spurs fans not knowing what it is like to finish above The Arsenal. Generations of Spurs fans not knowing what is like to win they league.

For a small club on the Middlesex/London borders, they do get a little too excited.

Spurs, the Newcastle of London.
