The Arsenal and Me – Glen’s Story

I am a glory hunter.

There I said it. At the tender age of 8 years old, with no football team to support & no father figure to follow, I remember the older boys on the estate talking about a game that was going to be played on a Friday night. For the week leading up to the game, the older lads played it out the on the estate. I was put on the Arsenal side to make up numbers. Friday night came.

May 26th 1989. I felt as if I had been playing and representing my mates and Arsenal on the estate so I wanted to watch it. There was a problem, my mum not a football fan, was not interested. That early evening I went to bed early climbed out my window and watched at my friends. That game, them moments of sheer excitement got me hooked. That was me I was an Arsenal fan.

As I grew older and my passion for the game grew, my knowledge got better, Arsenal signed a player called Ian Wright, something about that man that made me want to be him. I loved his style his passion everything about him. I was the white kid on the estate that would score a goal and “bogel” like he used to. I practised the one step penalty, I admired his ability, I was hooked on Arsenal. It was my drug.

Still at 10/11 years old I had not been to a game. I knew my mum would never take me and she wouldn’t let me travel to Highbury with the older lads as I was to young. not being allowed to do something got me itching to go more & more.

Aged 14 a few weeks before my 15th birthday, I though ‘Sod it, I’m’ going. Arsenal were hosting Norwich. HIGHBURY was my destination with £10 on me and no ticket, I took my chance. I can’t remember how much I paid to get in and I can’t really remember the game. I just remember winning and seeing it 1st hand what a feeling it was to see The Arsenal. that day we won 5-1.

From this day on, my aim was to play football & go to The Arsenal. I have been lucky enough to see us lift Premier League titles and FA Cups. I have also had the disappointment of watching us lose in finals … Liverpool, Birmingham, Chelsea. My love for the club still grows. I still get the same buzz now as I did when I was pubescent 14 year old lad.

There is something about going Arsenal that made me feel like I had the family I didn’t at home. Now I am a dad of 3 boys. I do it all different already; my boys come football with me and recently went on their first away day. Arsenal is now well and truly in my family and will live on for generations to come just how I want it to be . UP THE ARSENAL

I don’t care about Tottenham, lets care about Arsenal

During the West Bromwich Albion game, news filtered through about the Tottenham results. Firstly it was 0-1. Then 0-2. Then finally 0-3. People were getting excited. Some were even signing songs about it. But I stood there motionless. I did not care. Because here is the thing, when Arsenal are playing, there is only 1 result I care about, and that is Arsenal’s.

I was actually getting angry during the game, as fans sang about Spurs losing, laughed at their score and were happy about the way things were. At the time, Arsenal were drawing 1-1, we did not have 3 points in the bag, yet rather the support our side, cheer them to victory, we were too concerned with the Tottenham result. And that is not right.

For me, as much as I hate Tottenham, I do not care for their results. We are not trying to catch them, we are not trying to pull away, we are ahead. We are in the title race, they are looking at top 4. Yes, if it was 10 games to go and we were close, I would care, but that is not the case. For now, I am more concerned about the results of Manchester City and Liverpool, our competitors for the league title.

So what I ask all fans, whilst Arsenal are playing, lets ignore that lot up the Road. When Arsenal are playing, lets concentrate on the boys in red and white. If Tottenham lose, that is a bonus, but the most important result is Arsenal winning. That is all we should care about.

We cheer us to victory, nothing else maters. Let’s forget about Spurs and concentrate on The Arsenal.

10 Reasons why we will beat WBA + Starting XI

1.. Sagna is out, so Jenkinson will be Right Back. Which will mean some fresh legs in the defence, never a bad thing.

2.. The rest of our defenders are full fit, I’d expect Gibbs, Mertesacker and Koscieiny to start the game with Vermaelen and Monreal sitting on the bench.

3.. Flamini – Got to be the first name on the team sheet when Wenger is thinking about the centre mid 3. Organisation, professionalism, Fitness, Pace, reading of the game, tracking back, covering and sticking the boot in are all things he has and Diaby hasn’t.

4.. Ozil – Now there’s a way to open your goal account at a club and then there’s how Ozil did it. Pure class.

5.. Ramsey – This kid just keeps on growing, Jack should really learn from how he handles himself on and off the pitch.

6.. Arteta – We are in the blessed position right now that he doesn’t have to be rushed back from his injury layoff. Expect to see him on an experienced bench for us, which makes a good change.

7.. Rosicky – Fit, well as fit as he’s ever likely to be and until Santi or Podolski are back fit by far the best option we have on the left side of the attacking 3

8.. Giroud – every limp, every tackle, everytime he goes down i feel a pain in stomach, this is the only position we have no credible cover for. He is looking sharper, fitter, holding play up better, his positioning has improved and most importantly he is putting the ball in the net.

9.. WBA – Currently sitting 10th, won 2 drawn 2 lost 2, scoring 6 conceding 5. Yes they had a good day last weekend at a struggling Salford club but we should have miles too much for them.

10.. Wenger knows – Get this game out the way and the next game isn’t till the 19th October, when we should have a fully fit Arteta and fingers crossed Carzorla back and that’s when the real destruction of teams should commence.
