Goodbye Theo Walcott

Theo, Theo, Theo Walcott, his an Englishman at Arsenal.

He is also a bottle job. A disgrace. A player who’s time is up.

I do not usually like such aggressive criticism of players. But sometimes it is needed. Sometimes there is a straw that brakes the camels back. And the performance in the 0-0 draw against Sunderland was that straw.1415053720589_wps_1_Arsenal_s_Theo_Walcott_lo

For many a year, I back Theo. I saw a player in him. Whilst many wrote him off, I was rewarded with my faith in the player.

In 2012/13, he scored 21 goals in 43 games, adding 11 Premier League assists that season. As a comparator, that year Gareth Bale scored 26 in 44 with just the 7 assists. The summer of 2013 Gareth Bale joined Real Madrid for a lot of money.

Theo Walcott was still just 24 at the time. He seemed patience had been rewarded. That he had finally arrived as a top player.

Half way through that season, he held the club to ransom. With Robin van Persie, Alex Song, Samir Nasri & Cesc Fabregas having recently left the club, Arsenal were in a fragile place. They could not afford another summer where the sides best performer leaves. He got a bumper new contract.

The next year, he bounced from injury to injury, but every time he came in he looked in good touch, including a terrific cameo appearance against Manchester City (when we lost heavily). 2014/15 was very much the same. One injury followed the next.

That summer Arsenal were in a quandary. Walcott had one year left of the contract. Do the club offer him a new deal, offload a player for cheap, or risk losing him at the end of the season for nothing. Arsenal did what was probably the right thing at the time and offered him a new contract.

On the 31st July 2015, Theo Walcott signed a new (reportedly) £140,000 a week 4 year deal, thus making him one of the clubs highest earners alongside Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

The value of the contract at the time was baffling. Here was a player who had been injured for 2 years. The ball was no longer in his court. He could no longer bully us like he did in 2013. But it seems he (and his agent) did.

Arsenal could easily have called his bluff, told him to take a lower deal or be sold, and replaced him if necessarily. Instead, the club bowed down to his demands and did not sign a single outfield player.

Theo Walcott had just secured his future. A contract through until he was 30, earning him nearly £30,000,000 before tax. Count the zero’s. That is thirty million quid.

And then as suspected, this season followed the last two, and the majority of his career. Injuries.

So here was a player who in 10 years at Arsenal, had performed consistently at a high level for 1 season, and two half’s of a season, tied to a lucrative contract that will set him up for life.

And then we come to Sunderland.

With the goal gapping, he had a 50/50 challenge with Younes Kaboul. It wasn’t even a 50/50. It was probably 80/20 in his favour. He bottled it.

In that selfish moment, he showed he is more interested in himself, in his chances of making Euro 2016, than that of the team.

He would rather not risk an injury to make the ferry to France, than score a goal which would keep us on the coat tails of Spurs.

It was an utter disgrace.

The club had stood by him after 2 years of injury. Had rewarded him with a £30m contract. And that is the way he thanks us. It was a two fingers up to everyone. To the management, to the fans, and to his team mates. You certainly would not want to see Walcott in the trenches with you. He is more likely to throw you infront of the bullet than take one for you.

I do not want to see Theo Walcott in an Arsenal shirt again.

More than that, I do not want him picked for England. I am going out to France for the Wales game, Walcott does not deserve to be on that plane.

I then want Walcott bombed out in the summer.

He comes across as a nice lad, yet on numerous occasions has held the club to ransom, and then showed no commitment to the side when needed. He certainly does not go the extra mile.

It is time for him to be shipped out, hopefully to somewhere awful like Hull or Burnley.

Theo Walcott, we can not even say thanks for the memories but it is time to say goodbye.

An Open Letter to Fans of Tottenham Hotspur FC

Dear fans of Tottenham Hotspur FC,

I think it has to be said. Tottenham Hotspur, you will never have a better chance to win the league and you have completely blown it and it is hilarious.

Yes, Arsenal should have done better this year, but I am 27 years old. My team have won league titles in my lifetime, including going a season unbeaten, as well as numerous other trophies.

The last time your lot won the league was 1961. Just think about that, NINETEEN SIXTY ONE! Yes you may finish above us for the first time in 20 years but if you do not win the league does it actually matter?

You are small time Charlie, a constant source of amusement no matter how bad Arsenal are and I hope this year really hurts. You won’t come this close for another 50 odd years. 61 never again, 71 2004!

Thanks for the memories

Mike

Imagine all the Spurs fans, walking hand in hand

Imagine being born in 1996. A child born out of a bit of excitement after England beat Holland 4-1. Your dad shagged your mum in the Sirloin toilet in Chingford creating you. You’ve never seen Spurs finish above Arsenal. You’ve also seen Arsenal win the league at your ground, go unbeaten, win the double twice, and overhaul your FA Cup wins. You also still don’t know who it was that knocked your mum up in the toilet that fateful day you were conceived. Imagine being born in 1991. Your dad got a bit over excited at Gazza’s free kick and screwed your mum there and then on the sofa creating you. You are now 25. You’ve seen Spurs finish above Arsenal, twice, but can’t remember them. You do however remember 2004. The year Arsenal went unbeaten. The year they won it at White Hart Lane. You celebrate Nayim, but you forget Parma. And a domestic cup double.alan-shearer_1378821c

Imagine being 35. You were born in 1981. Your dad shagged a random bird after the UEFA Cup win. She never saw him again. You are now a middle aged man in a job going no where. Your misses and kids have left you. You sit at home all day in your bed sit wondering where it all went wrong. Maybe you are thinking about becoming a YouTube star. Supplementing your minimum wage ware house job working in a distribution centre in Enfield.  You still go on about that Gazza free kick. 1991. But you forget Arsenal in 93. How excited were you in 2001 when you were 1-0 up? That was Sol Campbell’s last ever Spurs game. Injured giving away the free kick for Arsenal’s equaliser. I’m sure you remember your most successful captain in the last 30 years?article-1265626-0050462900000258-420_468x286

Imagine being born in 1966. A baby born out of the europhia of England’s World Cup win. Conceived in the car park of the Beehive Pub on White Hart Lane. Between the bins. You know the place. Well you are now 50. Only 15 more years till you can retire. And what a life of footballing disappointment you have lived. 50 years old and never seen your team win the league. In comparison, the 20 year old friend of your son who you’ve never met, you remember, from that bird you shagged in the Sirloin toilet in 96, he has seen his team win the league 3 times. And at White Hart Lane once. Your other son, born 5 years earlier after a fumble on the sofa with your then misses has also only even known failure. That must hurt.england-1966_2018017c

1951 you were born? Imagine that, after Spurs first won the league you say? You were 10 in 1961? Good for you. You are now 65. How’s retirement old boy? What? You know you have a 35 year old son out that that you never met? A bird you shagged after the 81 UEFA Cup win? Call Jeremy Kyle. He will be able to help you track him down. A family reunion. How nice. Just a pity you will die having seen your team win just the 1 league title. You are old enough to at least boast about being their, at White Hart Lane, in 1971 & 2004. That makes it 3 league titles you’ve seen right? Screen-Shot-2015-12-11-at-102353

Imagine being the old boy in the corner. Born just before the war broke out. 1936 to be exact. He is now 80. He is a survived. Those nights sleeping in the underground. Waking up the next day not knowing if your house would be there. Daddy never came back from WW2. He didn’t die. He just got with a nice Polish bird and never came home. He was 30. Probably still fed up of seeing Arsenal moving to North London and wining 5 league titles, whilst Tottenham of Middlesex only had a 2nd division title to show off. Anyway, you survived. Good for you. And by 15 you had already seen Spurs win their first league title. Although the you’d have to sit through Arsenal winning one first. And of course, 1961. Although you have also seen Arsenal win the league twice. You’re up to two. And you’re still just 25. At this rate Spurs will be in double figures for league titles before you die. Could even over take Arsenal.Untitled

13 league titles, you’ve only won 2.
