Where are they now? Arshavin, Watt, Neita, Rees, Shea & Mannone

In part two of our ‘Where are they now’ series looking at how the players who left in the summer are now getting on, we saw what Arshavin, Watt, Neita, Rees, Shea & Mannone are now doing.

Andrey Arshavin

The Russian playmaker rejoined Zenit Saint Petersberg in June. He scored on his 2nd league appearance for his new (old) club and also scored in the Champions League, showing he still has the ability to produce on a big stage. He has since played 17 games for Zenith, scoring 4 and assisting 7. Producing in his favoured number 10 role, he has found himself on the bench a couple of times. Could a decent season force his way back into the Russian squad, to play his first game since 2012. With Russia almost certain to qualify, could he be on the plane to Brazil?

Sanchez Watt

Joining Craig Eastmond at Colchester, he has failed to make the impact his former Arsenal team mate has done at the Essex club due to injury. Having started the 1st league games of Colcheter’s season, he has torn his hamstring and suffered a thigh strain. Having played just 11 games in 13 months at Colchester (including his loan spell) I am actually surprised Arsenal let him go! If he gets fit, he will rip League One apart. But Watt and fitness go’s together like Diaby and fitness.

Nigel Neita

It seems he is without a club since leaving us. The speedy striker should probably start seeking employment elsewhere.

Josh Rees

Has since joined Nottingham Forest, where he has played 3 games for their under 21’s scoring once in a 3-0 victory over Birmingham City U21’s. Not yet had a sniff of 1st team action.

James Shea

Many years ago (2010 to be exact) Shea trained with England at London Colney when they were 2 goal keepers short for training. He once made the bench in a Champions League tie. Last Saturday he played for Needham Market in a 2-1 victory in the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round against Suffolk rivals AFC Subdury. He has only signed for the club for the single game. He is still officially without a club, but has been allowed to continue to train at Arsenal, the club he has been with since 10 years old, to maintain his fitness.

Vito Mannone

Joined the cuckoos next which is Sunderland, he started the majority of the Black Cats games in pre-season, including both games in the Premier League Asia Trophy. It looked like he would start the season as their number 1, however Paolo Di Canio went for Kieren Westwood when it came to the 1st game of the season. With Di Canio’s departure, Mannone has remained on the bench. We wait with baited breath to see if he will be on the team sheet for Gus Poyet’s 1st game after the international break.

The Arsenal and Me – Ade’s Story

I grew up in Archway, the son of a Yorkshire man, whose love of cricket was almost as strong as his love of his family, so we weren’t a football family.

And to be honest, unlike most on here, I can’t really remember my first Arsenal game! But that’s why my Arsenal is a little different to others…………

So how did I end up a massive (arf) Gooner??? Well as luck would have it, one of my best friends at primary school happened to be Fred Streets daughter! So I was fortunate enough to start my addiction from amongst the player’s wives and the comfort of the players’ lounge, all comfy and cosseted from the real football world

As I entered my teens I started to go to games, home and away, with my mates and this is where I found “my Arsenal”….

I could now  list all the games, finals, Highs and lows  etc etc etc  but I’m not going to, why?

Because my arsenal is more than the team, more than the trophies…….it’s the amazing, crazy, bizarre, unique people I have met in the past 35 years following AFC home and away…. The Bear, Maria and her cry, Baz with his kit, Mr Red Rolls Royce, the Mum and Daughter who I met at almost every way game I go to, Mr Beret, Bully, Big Martin, Micky B, The North Bank screamer, The internet freaks (my wife’s words not mine) the list could go on…..but you know what they all have in common???  Their love of ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB….Yes they may show it in very different ways, ways we don’t all like and approve of but they still support….they support THEIR CLUB…. THEIR WAY and that’s not wrong.

They are “MY ARSENAL”

Where are they now? Angha, Eastmond, Wynter, Monteiro, Ebecilio & Denilson

Last night I was playing FIFA 14. During a game, I heard the commentator say ‘Andre Santos’ and it got me thinking, how are the many players who left us getting on at their new clubs? What better time to explore how they are doing in a boring international break?

Martin Angha

The first player to leave us in the summer, announcing a deal to FC Nuremberg before the season had even ended on April 10th. He has since played once for his new club once, coming on in the 89th minute against Dortmund. He has performed 4 times of their reserves and at 19, it was unlikely he would make an immediate impact. He has, however, made a place on the Nuremberg bench his own. A sign he might break into the full team in the near future.

Craig Eastmond

The Nando’s loving chav joined League One Colchester in the summer, whom he spent the 2nd half of last season on loan. He is a regular in their first team, starting in all 11 of Colchester’s league games. Reports are he is maturing at Colchester and performing like a senior member of the squad, often passing on his Arsenal experience to those both younger and older in the Colchester squad. Having spent 3 years in Colchester myself, I am can hand on heart say the Nando’s there is decent. I am sure he is enjoying himself.

Jordan Wynter

Now at Bristol (Rovers or City? I do not know, why does such a small town need two football clubs?), 2 league starts and a goal in the League Cup was a good start for the midfielder. Playing in a defensive role, he was looking good until he picked up an injury in September which has left him unavailable for selection for over a month. He is now slowly regaining full fitness and playing in Bristol’s Under 21 side.

Elton Monteiro

The once highly rated joined Club Brugge where he has failed to do anything of note.

Kyle Ebecilio

The young Dutchman has returned to Holland to play for FC Twente. Having suffered at Arsenal, where he lacked 1st team opportunities, he has perhaps highlighted that you are better off remaining in the country of your birth to continue your development. Starting the season for FC Twente on the bench, he is now a regular in their 1st XI. Whilst he has always been the ‘1st sub’ the fact at 19 he is trusted with playing in central midfield on a regular for the Eredivisie table toppers shows we will be hearing a lot more about him. I wonder if we have a buy back clause?

Denilson

Having returned on loan to his home town club, Sao Paulo last year, he signed for them on a permanent basis this summer having mutually terminated his contract with Arsenal (ie got a big pay off). The Brazilian league is an odd one, where they play a regional league, then a national league, as well as the Cope Libertadoes (South American Champions League). 32 games since resigning for his home town club, he has been welcomed back by the fans big time. I hope he regains his ability, as I feel he was often chastised for “not being Cesc Fabregas”. 10 yellow’s, 2 red’s and no goals. Will he gain a place in the Brazilian squad for the next World Cup? Probably not.
