Arsenal’s new suit’s – A reminder of the class of The Arsenal

When reading about the new suits Arsenal wore before the game against Liverpool, it reminded me of something that happened over 20 years ago. The pictures that came out before the game looked great. Personally I had felt for some time that we are The Arsenal. I think they should wear them for every game as not only do they look the nuts but it a great tradition of ours.

Anyway, I was talking to a pal on Saturday about this and an incident came to mind from years back.

I have a load of pals from the same small town as an ex-Arsenal player, and needless to say quite a few of them knew an ex-Arsenal player who grew up in the area. One summer, many months ago we had a pre-season friendly. Stefan Schwarz was in the team. One of my pal’s and the former player’s dad came to London for the weekend for the games.

Anyway he got us tickets for the Saturday afternoon, we all went along had a few beers and watched the game. At the end of the game the three of us met the player outside the main entrance where he got us all into the player lounge.

At some point I needed the toilet, so I asked him to show me where to go. We were just about to start walking up stairs when he stopped, turned round to me and said “I can’t take you up there, you’re wearing jeans, no one is allowed upstairs with jeans on”

Although none of the hierarchy were in the stadium at this time, there was no CCTV, and upstairs was more than likely empty, he would not take me up there and you could see the fright in his eyes as if he got caught it would of got a roasting. It showed the respect that the players had for The Arsenal.

In the end he took me in the dressing rooms!

That shows that back then we had class and the players knew it. Hopefully the return to suits is just the start, and the current crop of players will learn to respect The Arsenal, and what it represents.

Arsenal about to enter the eye of the storm

As London and the South of England get’s hit by the worst storm in a few decades, Arsenal are about to enter their toughest period of the Premier League season so far.

With a fairly comfortable start to the league campaign, playing sides whim we beat in the corresponding fixtures last year, as well as one of the newly promoted – and bottom of the table – clubs, it should not really be a surprise to anyone that we are top of the league.

The tough fixtures are about to rain down on Arsenal football club, with use due to play Chelsea, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United within a 13 day period. It will be a season defining period. Defeats could see us out of the League Cup, requiring a victory in Napoli to remain in the Champions League, and doubts creeping into the mindset of the players that we are not good enough to compete with the Premier League’s elite.

Victories on the other hand will be like bright sunshine breaking through the clouds. Imagine the scenario if we get 4 wins from 4. World football will have to take notice of Arsenal football club, and the rest of the season will be very bright indeed.

Our season begins to heat up tomorrow with that League Cup tie against Chelsea. Despite it being silverware, it is understandable that Wenger will shuffle the squad. I would much rather a victory against Liverpool at the weekend, then a victory against Chelsea. The league is more important.

A victory against Crystal Palace should lift the pressure off the club. Had we suffered a defeat against them, we could have been facing a scenario where we potentially lost 6 games on the spin and the stormy atmosphere and Wenger Out cries would have quickly returned.

The Arsenal crowd need to ensure they get behind the side over the next 4 games. The Black Scarf Movement have organised a brilliant initiative against Chelsea which should see a fantastic atmosphere result from it. Hopefully that atmosphere carries itself over to the Liverpool game, and then travels to Dortmund and Manchester.

Get through the next few weeks with our Champions League destiny still in our own hands, and still top of the league, we could be on for a special season.

Hopefully the victories come flooding in.

Arsenal fan unfairly banned from attending games impacts local Charity

Fan X (as we will call him) pleaded guilty to a public order offence (threatening words & behaviour) mainly due to CCTV evidence, no complaints and no witnesses . It was just a row that got out of hand in a pub amongst acquaintances all Arsenal fans (not football related) 7 hours after a game and nearly 3 miles away from the ground.

The judge stated that Fan X did not deserve a football ban as it was clearly nothing to do with football and threw out that request by the police.The head of the Arsenal police intelligence team decided to take matters into her own hands and approached the club saying Fan X was a ‘danger to public safety’ and asked the club to impose a ban. He has never in 46 years of following The Arsenal been arrested inside a football ground. Fan X also has been banned from attending or organising any events inside our ground.

Fan X is the head of events for an Islington charity, they help keep local kids off the streets and try and give them a focus in life. The charity has held five Boxing shows at the Emirates Stadium over the last few years, all of which were great nights and went off without any trouble. They have even had some Arsenal players in attendance along with some big names in the world of boxing.

So a by product of this unjust ban is that the Islington based charity has had to find a new venue and is likely to lose out on some hard earned money to continue there great work for the local kids. Personally I am disgusted that a man a judge deemed safe to go into football grounds can get banned on the say so of one person and to ban a local charity which does so much great work for local kids will also suffer begs belief.

Fan X has currently got a legal challenge against this.
